Last week, ACTE delivered CTE policy recommendations to the incoming Biden Administration. These priorities respond to the short-term needs, such as coronavirus relief aid, and long-term needs, like building a skilled workforce to support the country’s infrastructure, facing CTE programs nationwide. Further, the memo includes a letter, co-authored by Advance CTE, providing input into the upcoming process to identify and ultimately nominate a new Assistant Secretary for the U.S. Department of Education’s (ED) Office of Career, Adult, and Technical Education (OCTAE).
As the Biden Administration seeks to promote economic growth and shared prosperity for our country and we continue to battle back from the global health pandemic and subsequent recession, the following policy recommendations will effectively leverage our nation’s CTE system to ensure that all Americans have equitable access to invaluable CTE opportunities that will put them on a path to a better life and a successful career:
- Support CTE as a Critical Component in COVID-19 Response & Strategy
- Significantly Increase Funding for Perkins CTE State Grants in the FY 2022 Budget Request
- Support Today’s Diverse Postsecondary Education Landscape
- Strengthen Connections between Education and Workforce Development Systems
- Incorporate CTE Programs and Facilities Into Infrastructure and Climate-related Proposals
