As Congress continues to consider how to best address the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, innovation and investments in our education and workforce systems should be a top priority. We know that educational institutions and educators are facing unprecedented challenges as they transition to remote learning while ensuring that all students continue to receive a high-quality education. We also know that there will be significant demands by learners of all ages for upskilling and reskilling programs that result in careers with family-sustaining wages as the country emerges from the pandemic. Over the last few weeks, we have been working closely with congressional leaders to ensure CTE’s inclusion in future response packages, and are making progress. However, your help is needed!
Members of Congress prioritize action requests from their constituents, so contacting them makes a huge difference. Through your work on a daily basis, you can provide a critical viewpoint on what additional regulatory or supplemental actions the federal government can take to help ease the burden on your school systems and workforce development programs.
Contact them today and urge them to prioritize CTE in any upcoming relief package! You can also call the U.S. Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121. An operator will then connect you with your requested office. For a list of specific recommendations, please click here to view a letter ACTE sent to congressional leaders.
Please specifically earmark funds for FCS family and consumer sciences one of the CTE areas for additional funds under the COVID 19 relief legislation. There is a critical need to provide content based information to learners- those who are in work based programs and all others during this time of pandemic distress. People need the skills offered within the discipline- family interaction, food and nutrition, meal planning, financial management, personal health, human development birth to death and consumer protection. Do it.
Thank you.
