Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) recently led an effort to secure sign-ons to a letter urging the Senate Appropriations Committee to make a robust investment in Perkins CTE Basic State Grants. The letter was addressed to Sens. Roy Blunt (R-MO) and Patty Murray (D-WA), the Chairman and Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies, respectively. Forty-one Senators signed on to the letter.
The letter notes that while Perkins CTE funding has received increases the last two fiscal years, total Perkins funding is still less than it was a decade ago. Moreover, funding has not accounted for inflation or the growing demand for these programs.
The letter comes less than a month after a similar letter circulated in the House. There, 162 Representatives from both parties signed onto the letter. You can read the Senate letter here. The full list of Senators who signed the letter is below.
