In order to learn how industry certification impacts student education and workforce outcomes, ACTE’s Certification Data Exchange Project has tested data-sharing processes between state education and workforce data systems and industry certifiers, created standardized tools and processes, and raised awareness about the importance of industry certification data.
The project’s final report outlines a five-step process that can inform others doing similar work:
- Establish the data-sharing agreement
- Estimate bandwidth and allocate resources
- Facilitate the transfer of data
- Perform the analysis
- Present results using common templates
As CDEP comes to a close, this publication describes the project’s goals, shares results and uses these five steps to discuss lessons learned and provide recommendations for future data-sharing and data-matching efforts.
Former CDEP participants are planning to use the expertise acquired through this project to support the National Association of Manufacturers’ effort to develop an infrastructure for certification data sharing with the National Student Clearinghouse and U.S. Census Bureau.
