This week, the House Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations Subcommittee will consider its FY 2016 funding bill for education, to be followed by full committee consideration of the bill next week. Though it is not yet known how much the bill provides for Perkins (the Perkins Basic State Grant program is currently funded at $1.118 billion), the bill does propose to cut education funding overall by $2.8 billion! Due to tight budgetary caps for FY 2016, many education and workforce training programs are cut or frozen at current funding levels in the bill.
Take a few minutes to contact your Representative and let him or her know that funding CTE is a top priority. It’s especially important to take action if your congressperson is one of the members of the appropriations committee listed below.
Take Action
- Use the congressional directory to find your Representative.
- Contact your congressperson using the CTE Action Center or by phone through the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121.
- Let them know that cutting funding for education and workforce training is bad for students, educators and the economy.
- Tell them to make funding CTE a top priority for FY 2016.

Mr. Womack,
I am contacting you in support of Perkins funding. As an Arkansas educator, I am aware of how much Perkins is needed to adequately prepare students for college and careers. Please do not cut Perkins funding!
Thank you!

As an advocate for students with disabilities, I feel that more education dollars should be spent on career education to prepare non-college bound students at risk for jobs. All kids can work if we prepare them adequately.
