Vice President Joe Biden announced this week the winners of the $450 million final round of Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) grants, which will be split by nearly 270 community colleges around the nation. The community college-focused competitive grant program is an offshoot of the Trade Adjustment Assistance program and was created in 2009 as part of the American Recovery Act.
Applicants for this round of TAACCCT grants were required to partner with local or regional employers in developing their training programs to ensure students were obtaining the skills necessary to find employment in in-demand industries. Through the partnerships, applicants were also tasked with supporting the development and expansion of state career pathways systems and improving the integration of state employment and education data.
The end of the TAACCCT grants comes as the Obama Administration has released Vice President Biden’s report on job-driven training. In addition, the administration has made continued asks for funding for a new $6 billion Community College Job-Driven Training Fund to support partnerships between postsecondary institutions and employers.
