Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA), co-chair of the Senate CTE Caucus, introduced a bill this week to support and expand career exploration opportunities for middle school students. The Middle School Technical Education Partnerships (STEP) Act (S. 2788) was co-sponsored by Sens. Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Bob Casey (D-PA), and Mark Warner (D-VA).
#CTE is a great tool to educate middle school students about what goes into a career field that matches their interests #MiddleSTEP

The proposed legislation would provide funding to local educational agencies in partnership with institutions of higher education and relevant business and industry representatives to establish and expand career exploration programs in middle schools that are linked to CTE programs of study offered at the high school or postsecondary level. The act would also provide students with comprehensive career and academic guidance and counseling to help students make informed decisions about their future education and career goals.
ACTE was involved in the development of the Middle STEP Act and supports the legislation as a significant boost to middle schools and college- and career-readiness.
