CTE programs across the country are feeling the pinch of these difficult economic times. Cuts in federal funding for education and budget austerity at the state and local levels have become major challenges for many CTE educators and administrators. While there are many funding opportunities available through government and private foundation grants for specific education projects and initiatives, these are not always easy to find. To help bring much-needed resources to your CTE classroom, we have created this new CTE Funding Spotlight series. We will search out education, workforce training and CTE funding opportunities that are currently available and regularly highlight them on our CTE Policy Watch Blog.
Today we shine the funding spotlight on the Toolbox for Education Grant sponsored by Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation. The grant supports grassroots community and school improvement projects. Some examples of funded projects include transforming unused school space into an afterschool tutoring center, landscaping a school garden, refurbishing a playground or park space and constructing an outdoor picnic pavilion. Proposals that incorporate student participation and hands-on learning are encouraged, so this is a great option for CTE programs that are planning service projects. Funding requests that have a permanent impact on schools, such as facility enhancements (both indoor and outdoor) as well as landscaping and clean-up projects, and encourage parent involvement, are also preferred. The requested grant amount must be between $2,000 and $5,000 per school. To apply online or to find more information about the Toolbox for Education Grant, visit the Lowe’s Foundation website.
